LW MAGNUM (ALSO INCLUDES M/1100 "LT")ġ963 TO APPROX. If you’re wondering about the manufacturing year of your Remington 870 shotgun, the easiest way to determine it is to locate its serial number. "LIGHT WEIGHT" ("LW") (ALSO INCLUDES M/1100 "LT") Model 870 LETTER SUFFIX (DESIGNATES GAUGE) (This has nothing to do with the barrel code & the barrel code has nothing to do with the serial numbers)ġ950 TO APPROX 1968: NO SERIAL NUMBER PREFIXġ968 TO PRESENT: LETTERS USED (IN SEQUENCE) REMINGTON SHOTGUN SERIAL NUMBER STRUCTURE I do not care about the number as it indicates the guns assembly station in the plant, but the two letters will date the barrel. ![]() What is the two letter stamp on the barrel? This would be the two letters on the left side of the barrel that are closest to the receiver.there will be a "number" between these two letters and the receiver for reference. The "V" on the end of the serial number means that your gun is a 12 gauge, 2 3/4" chamber. The next one or two letters are the year of manufacture. The first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture. ![]() Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle or shotgun on the left side, just forward of the receiver. 2 3/4 and 3 (top line) 3 1/2 only with Super Mag receiver (bottom line) on the left, I. Actually, Remington has given all of the 870 guns a serial number. The only barrel markings are the traditional Remington Arms Company Ilions, NY on the right and (star) 12 GA. Example I have a 16 gauge 1100 I bought new in 1979 that has a "M" prefix serial number and barrel code of "PV" or June 1979! I recently purchased a used 870 12 ga with a 26 barrel. The receiver was most likely made in either 1974, 1975, 1976 or 1977 as indicated by the Prefix "T" in the serial number, but keep in mind this is not completely accurate n determining the exact age of the firearm.
